Marja-Leena (Marje) Hirvonen was born in Finland. Since 2008 she lives in Cologne. She successfully studied stage dance at the University of Music and Dance in Cologne.
Even before her studies, Marje worked with various Finnish dance ensembles, a.o Cat People and Step Up Dancers and she also taught youth ensembles. During her studies, she spent four weeks in India, in Chennai, studying Indian martial arts Kalariappayat and classical dance phenomenon Mohiniyattam and Bharatanatyam.
Since graduating from the University of Music and Dance, she has been working as a dancer / co-choreographer in various projects in cooperation with artists from various disciplines: dance, installation, design, music, physical theater, and video both in Germany and abroad.
In the context of the young choreographer program, her solo workpiece 'Origin, Sin, Body' was presented in Cologne and promoted with the support of the Academy of the Arts of the World.
Her first full-length project "Trinity" with four performers was sponsored by four different institutions and was consistently received very positively. In June 2017 'Trinity' was invited to Krefeld for the FIRST STEPS-Festival.
In 2016, her work "RAVE" was selected as part of the New Talent - Cologne Biennale and produced with twelve dancers / laymen.
Marje Hirvonen worked in many different projects, among other with the group Fantastic5 (an urban dance group), as well as the FREIraum Ensemble, which presents specific performances on site each year. In addition, she choreographed 70 amateur dancers in 2017 for the music video '' No '' of the band Bukahara.
Marje Hirvonen produces and shows regularly in the Tanzfaktur in Cologne. In March her dance evening / event 'FEST' took place with a new premiere. Her interests are in current, social (environmental) issues that observe and comment on her environment. Marje places herself as an artist between dance, theater and performance.
